About the Role
Contract Project Engineer role (1-year duration, 2-year project) based in Gonzales, LA, on a 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM schedule. Candidates must be willing to work extended hours during planned outages, including 13-hour shifts for up to 13 consecutive days before a scheduled day off; outages typically last 14-45 days (average 30 days), and the selected candidate should expect to support 1-2 outage events during the project.
The Project Resource and Outage Support (PROS) Group is a diverse group that supports Industrial Gases (IG) North America capital projects, strategic planning, turnaround planning, and turnaround execution, providing specialized services and additional capacity for infrequent events to operational assets.
Responsibilities
- Lead assigned capital projects (standalone projects and projects within plant outages) and manage all engineering, design, and construction resources
- Develop estimates, funding documents, schedule, and ongoing forecasts for plant-executed projects within SAP
- Ensure all projects receive adequate process hazard reviews and ORIs and that all recommendations are completed in a timely manner
- Ensure inherent process safety is adhered to on all project designs
- Provide field supervision/support during project execution
- Manage project safety
- Maintain projects on budget and schedule
- Ensure all projects meet the operability needs of the customer
- Safety responsibilities: conduct a Safety Kickoff Meeting with contractors and operations team prior to start of execution; confirm contractors follow all AP Safety Standards; communicate safety goals (0 Recordables, 0 First Aids); complete short-term contractor BSP forms daily; complete JSA reviews and forms daily; participate in the Safe Work Permit issuance process; lead daily morning safety/toolbox meetings with all crafts; report all incidents immediately; ensure all contractors have submitted an Emergency Action Plan prior to mobilization; participate in Safety Sampling and Critical Safety Audits during outages; attend and contribute to monthly Safety Meetings
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Strong leadership abilities
- Manufacturing plant operations, maintenance, and capital projects experience
- Role model within the Project Engineering function: high ethical standards (unwilling to compromise on worker safety and regulatory compliance requirements); organizational credibility (able to influence business area, engineering, and manufacturing managers in the decision-making process)
- 0-20 years' experience in maintenance and/or engineering disciplines
- Technical degree (chemical engineering, mechanical or electrical engineering) REQUIRED
- Obtain TWIC, Security passport and pass refinery background checks; TWIC card must be current and valid for completion of the project
- Basic understanding of operating plant environment; understands quality standards as outlined by the Company and Chemicals, Inc.
- Willing to work a wide variety of scheduled days and hours following strict fatigue management guidelines; travel may be required as much as 15-25% depending on project
- Ability to work without close supervision; able to achieve various State-mandated certifications (TWIC, OSHA, etc.)
- Pass criminal background investigation; subject to pre-employment, reasonable-cause, periodic, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing
